Senate urges FG to immortalise late Aminu Dantata

The Senate on Tuesday called on the Federal Government to immortalise the late elder statesman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, by naming a national monument in his honour.

The resolution followed a motion moved during plenary by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and co-sponsored by Senators Rufai Hanga and Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila.

According to a statement by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy Senate President, the lawmakers paid glowing tributes to the late Dantata, who passed away on June 28 at the age of 94.

In leading the motion, Senator Barau described Dantata as a revered elder statesman, distinguished businessman, industrialist, and a deeply committed philanthropist. He said Dantata’s life was marked by humility, religious devotion, and an unwavering dedication to community and national development.

“Through his foundation and personal initiatives, he financed the construction of schools, mosques, health centres, and other social welfare projects across northern Nigeria and beyond,” Senator Barau noted. “He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a remarkable Nigerian who made profound contributions to both his community and the nation.”

The Senate’s call aims to ensure that Dantata’s legacy of service, generosity, and nation-building is preserved for future generations.
