The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Wednesday hosted a high-level delegation from the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, as both sides moved to deepen security collaboration and enhance the capabilities of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said the delegation was led by Acting INL Director, Dr. Douglas Grane, accompanied by In-Country Project Manager, Randy Holliday, and INL Program Officer from Washington, D.C., Charsaree Slomka.
According to the delegation, the visit was aimed at evaluating progress made by the SIS, assessing operational gaps, and reviewing areas where improved intelligence support, enhanced tactical capability, and targeted resource deployment are required. Findings from the assessment will form part of the 2026 strategic support framework, with focus on advanced training and modern equipment.
IGP Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the U.S. Government’s sustained assistance to the Nigeria Police Force, particularly through logistics support and specialised training programmes for SIS personnel. He noted that the Squad has recorded significant success in tackling violent crime nationwide, including counter-separatist operations in the South-East and joint rescue missions conducted with the Office of the National Security Adviser and other security agencies.
The police chief reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, strong international partnerships, and the continuous strengthening of national security architecture.
