IGP visits Kaduna, deploys mobile unit to Kariga

In response to the recent abduction of school students in Kaduna State, a high-level delegation led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, visited the state to assess the situation firsthand.

According to Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, accompanying the IGP were senior officers including the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, Habu Sani, psc, and DIG Department of Operations, Ede Ayuba Ekpeji, psc(+), as well as AIG Police Mobile Force Yekini Adio Ayoku, mni.

Adejobi said during the visit, which included meetings with state officials, the IGP extended heartfelt sympathies to the people of Kaduna State, particularly the Kuriga community directly affected by the abduction. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of all abducted students, emphasizing the employment of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to secure their release and bring the perpetrators to justice.

To strengthen security efforts in the affected area, the IGP announced the immediate deployment of a fully armed and ready unit of mobile policemen to the Kuriga Community. This deployment aims to bolster security and facilitate swift action in the ongoing rescue operation.

In response, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, pledged the government’s support to the police in their rescue efforts. Governor Sani assured continuous assistance and provision of support to the deployed officers. Additionally, he urged for responsible journalism amidst the sensitive situation, cautioning against sensationalized reportage by the media.

During his visit, the IGP engaged with police officers at the Police Command and the Police College, Kaduna, addressing their concerns and reaffirming the Force’s commitment to their welfare. He emphasized the aim of building a police institution that is service-driven, professionally competent, people-friendly, and compliant with the rule of law, all geared towards creating a more secure environment in Nigeria.

The Inspector General stressed the critical nature of the task ahead for the Nigeria Police Force and assured the public of relentless efforts towards ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. He called for calm and cooperation from the public and urged them to work with the Police and other relevant security agencies towards a swift resolution of the prevailing security challenges in the country.
