President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to serving Nigeria with a focus on delivering results in infrastructure, food and energy security, education, and long-term economic stability.
According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, the President stated this during a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, the President emphasized that his administration is not about personal gain.
“I didn’t come to look for money; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me,” Tinubu said, reflecting on his responsibility to the nation after lighthearted exchanges with his former parliamentary colleagues.
The meeting, attended by 16 former presiding officers from the Senate and House of Representatives, saw the President acknowledge their support across party lines. He urged them to foster unity and help achieve national development goals.
Tinubu expressed confidence that through collaboration and inclusiveness, Nigeria can overcome its challenges. He highlighted the neglect of key sectors like education and local communities, stressing that infrastructure must be improved to encourage school enrolment and elevate living standards.
“We have a long way to go, but we must do our best,” he stated, outlining his administration’s focus on alternative energy, financial regulation compliance, and addressing hardships linked to past mismanagement of national resources.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the delegation, affirmed the group’s support for Tinubu’s efforts, praising his leadership and recent measures, including his stance on local government autonomy. Nnamani expressed confidence that Tinubu’s experience will help tackle Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.
The meeting marked the President’s first official engagement with the Forum, and Nnamani pledged their assistance in nation-building and restoring Nigeria’s prosperity.
