Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing his passing as a painful loss to the state and the nation.
In a condolence statement, Jonathan said he received the news of Ewhrudjakpo’s death with “deep shock and sadness,” noting that the late deputy governor was a devoted public servant who demonstrated unwavering commitment to the welfare and progress of the Bayelsa people.
He described Ewhrudjakpo as a patriot and loyal steward who earned the respect and admiration of many across Nigeria. Jonathan recalled his diligence, intellectual depth, and pursuit of knowledge, qualities that distinguished him in every public office he held.
From his service as Commissioner to his tenure in the Senate and later as Deputy Governor, Ewhrudjakpo was noted for his eloquence, insightful understanding of governance, and warm sense of humour.
Jonathan said the loss is profound not only for the Government and people of Bayelsa State but also for his family and all who knew him personally. He praised the late deputy governor’s forthrightness and steadfast dedication to public service, describing him as a leader committed to the development and progress of the state.
The former president extended heartfelt condolences to Ewhrudjakpo’s family and the Bayelsa State Government, urging them to find comfort in the impact and legacy of a life dedicated to service.
He prayed for the repose of the late deputy governor’s soul.
