KACRAN seeks increased funding for Northeast development

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has called for increased funding for the North East Development Commission (NEDC), while commending the Commission for what it described as a transparent and accountable inspection of projects across the Northeast region.

In a statement issued by its National President, Hon. Khalil Mohammed Bello, KACRAN praised the NEDC for conducting a month-long inspection of ongoing and completed projects, describing the exercise as a hallmark of responsible public administration and effective oversight.

According to the association, the Commission’s high-level verification of projects demonstrates a firm commitment to ensuring that public funds are translated into measurable developmental outcomes for communities in the region.

KACRAN particularly lauded what it termed the “boldness and confidence” exhibited by the Commission during the inspection tour, noting that the exercise reflects adherence to required standards and value-for-money principles in project execution.

The association expressed special interest in the Commission’s investments in water infrastructure and livestock support initiatives designed to enhance pastoral livelihoods. It noted that such interventions are vital to sustaining the livestock sector and strengthening pastoral communities in the Northeast.

KACRAN further stated that these efforts align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which places emphasis on livestock development, food security and economic diversification. Strengthening livestock production, the group added, would reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported dairy and meat products and potentially position the country as an exporter of livestock products in the long term.

The association also commended the composition of the inspection team, which included the Commission’s Governing Board Chairman, Managing Director and senior directors from finance, operations and humanitarian affairs. It noted that the inclusion of top management officials and media representatives during the nearly 30-day tour underscores a culture of transparency in governance.

The inspection reportedly covered key sectors such as road construction, drainage systems, primary healthcare facilities, educational projects, water points for livestock and the distribution of humanitarian relief materials to internally displaced persons.

While describing the NEDC as a model of sincerity and dedication in Nigeria’s public sector, KACRAN urged President Tinubu to ensure timely and adequate funding for the Commission to sustain its development and humanitarian interventions.

The association stressed that increased funding would bolster infrastructure delivery, livestock productivity, peace-building initiatives and humanitarian support across the Northeast region.
