The Katsina State Government has initiated a 30-day sustained joint security operation in 19 front-line local government areas to combat terrorism and banditry. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, during a press briefing late Tuesday after an expanded State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Katsina.
The meeting, convened by Governor Dikko Umar Radda, was in response to a recent uptick in bandit attacks, which have exploited the cover provided by the rainy season and high crop growth. Attendees included members of the State Security Council, Local Government Chairmen, District Heads, Divisional Police Officers, Department of State Services representatives, Heads of Vigilante Groups, Katsina Community Watch Corps Commanders, and Civil Defence officials from the 19 affected local government areas.
The targeted local governments are Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, Kankia, Faskari, Dandume, Sabuwa, Dutsin-ma, Kurfi, Kankara, Musawa, Matazu, Malumfashi, Danja, Bakori, Funtua, Charanchi, and Batagarawa.
Mu’azu outlined the key resolutions adopted at the meeting, emphasizing a community-based approach to security that leverages local intelligence and the active participation of residents to enhance the effectiveness of the operation
