Nigerian singer-songwriter Keziah Jones has made his debut performance in Saudi Arabia, taking the stage at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art at Jax (SAMoCA) as part of the ongoing SAFAR live music programme organised by the Saudi Museums Commission under the Ministry of Culture.
Performing in Riyadh for the first time, Jones enthralled the audience with his signature ‘Blufunk’ style — a vibrant fusion of blues, funk, soul, and global influences. His high-energy set showcased his exceptional guitar mastery, rhythmic precision, and charismatic stage presence as he moved seamlessly from upbeat funk to soulful blues and introspective storytelling.
Drawing on his Yoruba roots while blending elements of jazz, rock, and improvisation, Jones delivered a refreshing performance that resonated strongly with concertgoers, many of whom were experiencing his genre for the first time. His appearance underscores SAFAR’s mission to spotlight diverse musical voices and promote cross-cultural engagement through live performances.
The SAFAR concert series, launched on 28 October, opened with a dynamic show by French music collective Bon Entendeur, known for their fusion of electronic, disco, funk, and hip-hop influences.
The programme will continue with multimedia duo Love & Revenge, who will host a workshop on Sunday, 7 December, before performing on Monday, 8 December, at 9:00 PM at the SAMoCA at Jax Outdoor Arena. Their upcoming show, Agmal Layali, reinterprets the legacy of iconic Egyptian singer Oum Kalthoum through contemporary electronic music and cinematic visual art. The performance celebrates the 50th anniversary of Kalthoum’s passing, offering a multisensory tribute that connects her timeless artistry with modern soundscapes and introduces a new generation to the cultural heritage of the Arab world.
