Marwa: Nigerian Military can tackle banditry as effectively as insurgency

Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their professionalism, patriotism, and sacrifices in combating banditry in the North West and other security challenges nationwide.

During a visit from Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Marwa stressed the need to support the military, citing a viral video of bandits seizing an armoured vehicle in Zamfara. He asserted that the military is well-positioned to tackle banditry, as they did with the insurgency in the North East.

Marwa urged Nigerians to stand with the military, highlighting their global recognition for peacekeeping and their dedication over the past 15 years in challenging conditions. He expressed confidence that the same forces who contained Boko Haram will eventually neutralize banditry in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and beyond.

Gen. Laka, seeking collaboration with NDLEA, emphasized the link between drugs and crime, noting NDLEA’s significant impact on disrupting criminal networks. He proposed joint efforts in public sensitization campaigns to address the drug-crime-terrorism nexus.

Marwa commended Laka’s commitment and expressed confidence in his success at NCTC.
