The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has announced notable achievements in its counter-terrorism efforts, with Operation Nashrul Salam prompting increased surrenders among militant groups. This disclosure was made during a recent courtesy visit by Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali to General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
General Ali revealed that a growing number of terrorists have recently laid down their weapons in the Republic of Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria, marking a significant development in the ongoing campaign against insurgency in the region. He also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their steadfast support of the MNJTF’s endeavors in combating terrorism.
Furthermore, General Ali highlighted the intensified intervention of the MNJTF in providing assistance to local communities for their recovery through Quick Impact Projects. Notably, in Sector 3 Monguno-Nigeria, over eight communities have benefited from thirty-five projects spanning the water, education, and health sectors.
Responding to these positive advancements, General Christopher Musa expressed gratitude for the MNJTF’s commitment to stabilizing the Lake Chad area, underscoring its critical economic significance for neighboring nations. He stressed the imperative of continuing support for the MNJTF to fulfill its mandate and pledged further assistance to ensure the force’s sustained success in the fight against terrorism.
Operation Nashrul Salam, a non-kinetic initiative of the MNJTF, has played a pivotal role in persuading terrorists to embrace peace and renounce violence in the Lake Chad region. This strategic shift towards addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting lasting peace underscores the operation’s effectiveness. The operation’s success in facilitating surrenders from insurgents across multiple countries serves as compelling evidence of the efficacy of this non-violent approach in countering terrorism and fostering stability.
