In continuation of Operation Lake Sanity 2, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) neutralized nine terrorists and recovered significant arms and ammunition in Sector 3, Nigeria, on July 17 and 18, 2024.
According to Chief Military Public Information Officer HQ MNJTF, Ndjamena, Chad Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, on July 18, 2024, troops conducted an offensive operation in Yashinti Village, Nganzai Local Government Area (LGA), Borno State, Nigeria. During the firefight, four terrorists were neutralized, and the following items were recovered: one AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 rifle magazines, and seven rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm special ammunition.
In separate clearance operations across Gajiram, Marram, Tumtumari, Layinma, Kulunkiya, Gadayi Tumtumari, and Kodayi in Nganzai LGA, troops neutralized four more terrorists attempting to disrupt agricultural activities. A 10-year-old boy, Mustapha Bukar, who had been abducted by the terrorists, was rescued and reunited with his family. Recovered arms included two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm and 30mm ammunition.
Additionally, MNJTF troops conducted a night ambush at an identified terrorist crossing point in Kukawa LGA. One terrorist was neutralized, and troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, six magazines, and 118 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
These operations underscore MNJTF’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the Lake Chad basin region. The successful neutralization of terrorists and recovery of arms not only weaken the operational capabilities of the insurgents but also provide a sense of safety and confidence to the local communities.
