The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has successfully obtained a conviction against the former Provost of Isaac Jasper College of Education, Sagbama, Bayelsa State, Professor Saviour Nathan Agoro. The charges brought against Professor Agoro by the Commission pertain to contracts fraud totaling N285 million.
Professor Agoro, along with the former accountant of the institution, Mr. Perez Friday Lakemfa, faced legal proceedings at the Bayelsa State High Court.
The charges brought against them were pursuant to sections 12 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000. Both individuals were accused of having vested interests in and unlawfully conferring corrupt advantages upon themselves and their associates in connection with contracts awarded by the College.
The conviction underscores ICPC’s commitment to combating corruption and upholding the principles of ethical governance within educational institutions.
