In a significant advancement in counter-terrorism operations, the Air component of Operation Hadarin Kai (OPHK) has conducted precision airstrikes targeting the hideouts of ISWAP terrorists situated within Kolleram village along the shores of Lake Chad.
According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, the operation, executed on April 13, 2024, achieved notable success with the Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) post-strike confirming the neutralization of over 30 terrorists, including senior commanders such as Ali Dawud, Bakura Fallujah, and Mallam Ari. Additionally, the airstrikes resulted in the destruction of numerous vehicles, motorcycles, and logistical assets, severely impeding the operational capabilities of the terrorists.
Gabkwet further disclosed that intelligence gathered subsequent to the airstrikes revealed the effective obliteration of a key facility within the Kolleram enclave, which served as a vital hub for the terrorists’ food processing activities, including grinding machines.
Highlighting the strategic significance of these airstrikes, Gabkwet emphasized the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding the safety and security of Nigerian citizens. By eliminating key terrorist figures and dismantling their logistical infrastructure, the operation has significantly degraded the capabilities of the ISWAP group in the region.
Gabkwet underscored that these airstrikes complement the ongoing efforts of ground forces in the Lake Chad flank and mark a crucial advancement in the ongoing battle against terrorism in Nigeria.
