NAF air strikes destroy illegal oil refining sites along Imo River

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) destroyed two illegal oil refining sites along the Imo River, just hours after a strategic meeting between Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar and Abia State Governor Alex Otti about establishing a NAF base in the state.

Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet said the illegal refining sites, situated near Obiaku and the borders of Imo, Abia, and Rivers States, comprised multiple tanks and reservoirs.

He added that upon confirming the sites were operational, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe received authorization to carry out air strikes, effectively eliminating the sites and their equipment.

Gabkwet said following this success, Operation Delta Safe will intensify air operations in key areas to further disrupt criminal activities. This operation highlights the urgent need for a NAF base in Abia State, a point underscored by both Governor Otti and Air Marshal Abubakar.

NAF’s continuous efforts in maintaining aerial superiority and collaborating with ground forces emphasize its commitment to the security of Nigeria and its citizens.
