In a relentless campaign against terrorist groups, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed a series of devastating airstrikes on terrorists and their hideouts, delivering a significant blow to their operational capabilities. According to Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) carried out precision airstrikes on a newly identified terrorists’ hideout located near the Lake Chad region in Bukar Meram on the early hours of October 14, 2023.
The decision to launch the airstrikes was prompted by intelligence indicating the recent relocation of terrorists from Suwa to the Bukar Meram area, suggesting their intent to mount fresh attacks on both military forces and innocent civilians. In response, the authorization for airstrikes at Bukar Meram was granted.
The results of the operation were highly successful, with several terrorists neutralized, and over 40 motorcycles and six-gun trucks destroyed. This strategic move significantly degraded the terrorists’ ability to launch attacks against ground troops and innocent Nigerian citizens.
Notably, similar airstrikes against terrorists were executed by the Air Component of Operation Haradin Daji on October 11, 2023, along the Sangeko axis of the Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State. In this operation, a convoy of approximately 70 motorcycles heading from Kabaro towards Sangeko was engaged, resulting in several neutralized terrorists, the destruction of their motorcycles, and injuries to others.
Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, praised the professionalism and dedication of the Air Components in curbing the terrorists’ freedom of movement and their ability to inflict harm on law-abiding citizens. He commended their continuous support for ground troops and urged them to remain focused, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and confidence of Nigerian citizens.
“In your commendable efforts to support ground troops,” Air Marshal Abubakar stated, “you must remain vigilant and not become complacent as we are committed to providing our citizens with the confidence they deserve to thrive.”
The NAF continues its relentless efforts to combat terrorism and protect the security and well-being of the Nigerian people, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
