NAF commissions community development project in Delta

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned a Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Special Intervention Project in Adobu Community, Patani Local Government Area of Delta State, as part of its ongoing effort to strengthen civil–military relations and deliver grassroots development.

The project, executed by retired Air Vice Marshal Ebimbowei Dennis Yinkere and approved by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, forms part of a nationwide initiative encouraging senior Air Force officers to give back to their communities. It featured the renovation and remodelling of the Adobu Community Town Hall, alongside a free medical outreach for residents.

The upgraded town hall is expected to serve as a central hub for meetings, cultural activities, civic engagement and community decision-making, thereby enhancing social cohesion and local administration. The medical outreach, which ran concurrently with the commissioning, provided residents with access to essential healthcare services, facilitating early detection of illnesses and reducing the financial burden of medical care on families.

Speaking at the event through the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the CAS described the intervention as a key element of the NAF’s people-centred security strategy. He noted that sustainable security is best achieved through trust and cooperation with host communities, and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence. He reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.

In his remarks, AVM Yinkere expressed appreciation to the CAS for the opportunity to execute the project, describing it as a symbol of the enduring bond between the NAF and the Nigerian people. He said the intervention reflected the positive outcomes of collaboration between government, the military and local communities, and would promote unity, comfort and civic participation.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by a representative of the Executive Governor of Delta State, retired senior military officers, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders, underscoring broad support for the NAF’s development-oriented approach to national security.
