Marking a significant milestone in aviation excellence, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff (CAS), commissioned advanced runway lights and airfield facilities at the Kaduna Military Airfield on Friday, June 14, 2024. This upgrade is set to revolutionize pilot training, enhance safety protocols, and boost operational efficiency, heralding a new era for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
According to Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, a day earlier, Air Marshal Abubakar inaugurated the new Base Defence Coordination Centre and the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Workshop among other notable projects. These developments underscore NAF’s relentless dedication to meeting Nigeria’s defense and security needs.
In his remarks, the CAS expressed pride in the airfield’s transformation, acknowledging past modernization efforts. He emphasized the strategic importance of the Kaduna Military Airfield, a key military stronghold since the Nigerian Civil War, hosting major operational units.
“The inauguration of these new facilities will eliminate challenges during night operations and low-visibility conditions, improving sortie rates and mission success,” said Air Marshal Abubakar. He highlighted that these upgrades will significantly boost NAF’s agility, enabling seamless day and night operations, and enhance resilience against adverse weather, thus better fulfilling national security requirements.
Air Marshal Abubakar assured Nigerians of noticeable progress in the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities in the Northwest and beyond. He praised the dedication of NAF engineers, technicians, and support staff, and acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visionary leadership for inspiring transformative advancements in NAF and national development.
