The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited have agreed to deepen strategic collaboration aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s national security, technological sovereignty, and operational sustainability.
Discussions focused on leveraging NIGCOMSAT’s space-based capabilities to strengthen NAF’s secure communications, real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations. Both parties stressed the need for indigenous satellite solutions to safeguard national sovereignty and support evolving defence objectives.
Air Marshal Abubakar emphasised the importance of reducing reliance on foreign systems, noting that collaboration with agencies like NIGCOMSAT would ensure secure communication and real-time situational awareness across NAF’s operational theatres.
In response, Mrs Egerton-Idehen praised the Air Force’s forward-thinking approach and pledged NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to providing mission-specific satellite services to support Nigeria’s digital defence infrastructure.
The visit underscores a renewed commitment by both agencies to harness local technological capabilities in strengthening Nigeria’s air defence and surveillance operations.
