NAF promotes 57 senior officers, boosts command capacity amid security pressures

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has elevated 57 senior officers to top command positions, strengthening the Service’s leadership structure as the nation continues to confront widening security threats. The promotions, approved on 27 November 2025, include 27 officers elevated to Air Vice Marshal and 30 to Air Commodore.

In a statement, Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Headquarters Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said those promoted to Air Vice Marshal are Air Commodores SA Eyoma, GI Jibia, AA Adebomehin, ES Odekina, CE Akubue, SO Eyekosi, AO Akinbuwa, LI Kamat, AG Akinyimika, AO Bamidele, AK Famuyiwa, PJ Edem, SA Madaki, OT Salami, FO Ankeli, MJ Chidama, JJ Ijudigal, M Umar, IJ Ogbodo, U Ariahu, AL Dakwat, CE Akpa, EC Ukpong, IS Subi, IM Yusha’u, SS Lazarus and F Ekpah.

The new Air Commodores are Group Captains MA Imam, AA Komolafe, HI Eze, DU Edet, MB Umar, GH Okoh, SP Sekegor, PP Okonkwo, PU Okweugo, AU Yahaya, M Yahaya, IR Ubeh, OK Cole, EA Ifebi, RK Olundu, IO Akpasa, AK Mohammed, HA Meshack, SN Nwachi, ZB Shuwa, EJ Alabila, SA Osoniyi, AO Ogunmola, AJ Arumona, BI Jayeoba, CE Akuh, NN Onuoha-Mba, PA Garba, YM Abdullahi and M Suleiman.

The NAF said the promotions reflect a deliberate effort to reinforce high-command leadership, deepen operational expertise and enhance the strategic capacity of the Service. The officers underwent a rigorous assessment of merit, professional competence, operational record, loyalty, and alignment with the Air Force’s long-term objectives.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the promotions as both recognition and renewed responsibility. He said Nigeria faces a complex and fast-evolving security environment marked by terrorism, banditry, cross-border crime and other asymmetric threats that demand sharper leadership and more agile decision-making.

“The nation needs leaders who think clearly under pressure, act with precision and inspire the men and women they lead,” he said, urging the newly promoted officers to uphold discipline, strengthen inter-service cooperation, mentor junior personnel and enhance intelligence-driven operations.

Aneke reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at building a smarter, technology-driven force capable of delivering decisive airpower whenever required.

The Nigerian Air Force congratulated the newly promoted officers and expressed confidence in their ability to further advance the Service’s mission and national security objectives.
