The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) have strengthened their collaboration to improve regulatory standards, enhance clinical trial oversight and promote the global recognition of Nigeria’s clinical research system.
The renewed partnership focuses on improving regulatory processes, building professional capacity and strengthening coordination between the two institutions in the supervision of clinical trials conducted across the country.
As part of the initiative, the agencies are conducting a five-day Clinical Trial Stakeholders Training programme designed to equip professionals across the clinical research and regulatory sectors with the knowledge and skills required to improve compliance with established standards.
The training also seeks to promote harmonised practices, strengthen institutional collaboration and enhance the effectiveness of clinical trial oversight in Nigeria.
Through the programme, participants are expected to deepen their understanding of regulatory requirements, ethical review procedures and the responsibilities of stakeholders involved in clinical research.
The collaboration underscores the importance of aligning regulatory oversight with ethical standards to safeguard the rights, safety and well-being of clinical trial participants while supporting credible and scientifically sound research.
Effective coordination between NAFDAC and NHREC is also expected to improve the consistency of regulatory and ethical review processes, strengthen public confidence in clinical research and support the development of a more robust research environment.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to oversee clinical trials in line with internationally recognised standards and improve the country’s standing in the global clinical research community.
