Navy Holdings Limited (NHL) management has taken steps to address the recent controversies surrounding allegations of contract procurement violations, abuse of office by the Executive Director of Operations, Commodore Gabriel Sunday Martins Aligwe, and what they deem as a malicious publication circulating on certain online media platforms. This publication had called for investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, as well as the involvement of the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of the Naval Staff regarding Commodore Aligwe’s actions.
NHL, established with the goal of enhancing service efficiency, coordinating and consolidating internally generated revenues from all NHL subsidiary companies for better accountability, and promoting effective management and administration, issued a statement through their Commander, Group Public Relations Officer, Blessed Nuhu.
In the statement, NHL clarified, “Navy Holdings Limited (NHL) has taken notice of a baseless publication circulating on certain online media outlets, urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and senior military authorities to investigate Commodore Gabriel Sunday Martins Aligwe, the Executive Director of Operations at NHL, for alleged breaches of public rules and abuse of office.”
The statement went on to clarify that NHL underwent a recent change in management, and during this transition, no new contracts have been awarded by the new leadership. Instead, the management is actively engaged in renegotiating expired contracts. Consequently, contractors with expired agreements have temporarily ceased operations while these renegotiations are underway.
The statement stressed NHL’s compliance with all relevant regulations, pointing out that the company is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and operates under the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 and other regulatory frameworks. The Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer is accountable to a Board of Directors for executing the policies and decisions made by the Board. Therefore, no director or individual has the authority to unilaterally award contracts without the approval of the Board.
NHL urged the public to disregard the online publication in question and assured that they remain committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and adherence to the law in their operations.
