NDLEA officer wins prestigious global award for operational success

The Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has granted a special promotion to Francis Ameh Igonoh, a Superintendent of Narcotics, following his receipt of the 2024 International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Outstanding Operational Success Award.

During a brief ceremony where Igonoh presented his award certificates, Marwa praised his exceptional performance and dedication. “You have distinguished yourself in our efforts to curb substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria. This global recognition of our role in dismantling fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine cartels demonstrates enhanced intelligence,” Marwa stated. He also acknowledged the support of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.

Marwa highlighted the significant impact of Igonoh’s work, noting that every drug seizure contributes to making Nigerian streets and society safer. “The sacrifice of a narcotic officer cannot be quantified in gold or silver, for he is fulfilling a higher calling,” he said. He emphasized that the NDLEA values the efforts of its officers and will continue to reward hard work and excellence.

In recognition of Igonoh’s dedication, professionalism, and global acclaim, Marwa approved his promotion to Assistant Commander of Narcotics, bypassing his due elevation to Chief Superintendent of Narcotics. This accelerated promotion aims to encourage Igonoh and his peers.

The award certificate, signed by Harward Lampley, Director of the West Africa Regional Training Center, commended Igonoh for his commitment and the effective use of skills acquired from ILEA training in combatting drug trafficking. “Your dedication, hard work, and excellence in countering Transnational Organised Crime are commendable,” the certificate reads, appreciating his contributions to regional and global security.

The NDLEA continues to honor its officers, reinforcing its commitment to their welfare and recognizing their critical role in the fight against illicit drugs.
