The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed in a cement-laden trailer along the Zaria–Kano road.
The illicit consignment was recovered on February 2, 2026, by officers attached to the Kiru Area Command following intelligence-led surveillance and sustained monitoring operations.
According to the Command, the trailer, loaded with Dangote cement, originated from Obajana in Kogi State and was en route to Mubi, Adamawa State, when it was intercepted. The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and is currently in NDLEA custody pending further investigation.
Commander D.Y. Lawal of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command said the seizure was the outcome of meticulous intelligence gathering and operational diligence.
“The drugs were concealed within legitimate cargo and are believed to have been intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period. We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual wellbeing of our communities,” he stated.
In line with directives from the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Buba Marwa, the Kano Command said it would intensify patrols, strengthen checkpoints and sustain intelligence-driven operations across the state.
The agency disclosed that investigations are ongoing to unravel the network behind the shipment, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other collaborators and facilitators. Suspects found culpable will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The NDLEA called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities related to drug trafficking through official agency channels, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to safeguarding public safety and preserving social order.
