The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has called on international partners to support its North East Stabilization and Development Master Plan, aimed at accelerating recovery in the conflict-impacted region.
The NEDC presented this strategic plan to global stakeholders at the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad.
The Master Plan serves as a comprehensive framework to drive sustainable development programs in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe. These efforts aim to complement ongoing humanitarian assistance and disaster response initiatives.
During the presentation, NEDC’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, highlighted the alignment between the LCBC’s Lake Chad recovery initiatives and NEDC’s North East recovery strategies. Alkali underscored the importance of collaboration with the LCBC, which has a strong influence on the North East’s recovery trajectory.
LCBC Executive Secretary, Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, affirmed the potential for a collaborative partnership, emphasizing the need for technical-level recommendations to strengthen joint efforts. He also noted the strategic alignment of both organizations’ goals under the regional stabilization strategy, developed in 2018, and identified financial support as the key limitation.
The NEDC delegation, which included senior officials like Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya and Prof. Umar Bobboi, will also participate in the 3rd Annual International Forum on Lake Chad Basin Development. The event, themed “Enhancing Local Governance and Social Cohesion for Socio-Economic Development and Food Security in the Lake Chad Region,” aims to address socio-economic challenges facing the region.
