NEMA, SOO extend humanitarian aid to Zamfara’s banditry victims in nine LGAs

In a commendable display of humanitarian solidarity, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Sokoto Operations Office (SOO) joined forces to provide crucial relief support to victims of armed banditry and windstorm across nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Zamfara State. The Head of Operations at NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi, led a dedicated team to facilitate the delivery of much-needed aid, including 210 cartons of dates generously donated by the Saudi Arabian Government.

Zamfara State has found itself grappling with the severe consequences of armed banditry, a situation that has led to the displacement of thousands of residents, resulting in a dire humanitarian crisis. The affected LGAs encompass Gusau, Tsafe, Talata-Mafara, Bakura, Bungudu, Anka, Kaura-Namoda, Maru, and Maradun.

In a poignant display of support and empathy, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Mallam Mummuni, represented the State’s Governor during the relief aid distribution ceremony. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Federal Government for its unwavering assistance and commended NEMA for its rapid response in addressing the urgent needs of the displaced individuals in the State. Additionally, he reassured the public that the State Government would ensure the proper utilization of the distributed relief items for the benefit of the recipients.

The dignitaries in attendance at the flag-off event included the Secretary to the Government of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abubakar Nakwada, Chief of Staff, Hon. Muktar Mohammed Lugga, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Relief Matters, Salisu Musa Tsafe, and a representative of the Emir of Gusau from the traditional institution.

The relief aid package, thoughtfully assembled by NEMA and SOO, comprised a range of essential items, both food and non-food, aimed at alleviating the hardships endured by the victims who find themselves in an exceptionally precarious situation.

This collaborative effort between NEMA and SOO, in conjunction with the support of the Saudi Arabian Government, underscores the commitment to ameliorate the suffering of those affected by armed banditry and other natural disasters in Zamfara State. It serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of collective humanitarian action in addressing pressing challenges faced by communities in distress.
