NESREA chief urges environmental consultants to uphold professionalism, as 108 inducted

Dr. Innocent Barikor, Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), has called on newly accredited environmental consultants to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in their work.

Dr. Barikor made this statement during a one-day hybrid induction workshop organized by NESREA with support from the EU Delegation, held on Friday in Abuja.

“This is a call to be vigilant and proactive in addressing environmental challenges, and a call to collaborate with NESREA and other stakeholders in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainability,” said Dr. Barikor.

He emphasized the critical role of environmental consultants in identifying, assessing, and mitigating environmental impacts, and in ensuring compliance with environmental laws and standards.

“You will be our eyes and ears on the ground, helping us to monitor, evaluate, and improve our environmental practices across various sectors. Your work will contribute to safeguarding our natural resources, protecting public health, and promoting sustainable development,” Dr. Barikor added.

Mr. Godfrey Ogbemudia, Programme Officer for the European Union, who spoke virtually, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting NESREA through technical assistance to enhance national development.
