The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Katsina State Office has intensified efforts to protect vulnerable residents, responding swiftly to recent cases involving alleged child trafficking and domestic violence across the state.
In a statement, the Commission said its оператив teams had, within days, handled two critical incidents underscoring the urgency of safeguarding human dignity and fundamental rights.
One of the cases involved the rescue of a three-year-old child in Mashi Local Government Area, in what authorities suspect to be a case of child trafficking. The NHRC confirmed that the child has since been secured, with further investigations ongoing in collaboration with relevant security agencies.
In a separate intervention, the Commission said it stepped in to address a case of domestic violence, working to halt ongoing abuse and ensure the safety of the victim while facilitating appropriate legal and social support measures.
The NHRC reiterated that both incidents reflect broader concerns around the protection of vulnerable groups, particularly children and women, and the need for sustained vigilance at community level.
Reaffirming its mandate, the Commission stressed its commitment to defending the rights of all citizens. “Whether it is a child taken from her home or a woman facing violence within her household, our responsibility is clear—we must protect the vulnerable,” the statement said.
The Katsina office also highlighted the role of collaboration in its interventions, noting that support from security agencies and concerned residents—described as “conscience citizens”—has been instrumental in advancing its work.
The Commission pledged to sustain its engagement with stakeholders to strengthen protection mechanisms and ensure that justice is served, as part of ongoing efforts to promote safety and human rights across Katsina State.
