In a statement issued Saturday, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed the nation’s congratulations to Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on her recent election as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
The election took place during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Alia, Samoa, on October 25, 2024.
“Nigeria extends its congratulations to Hon. Botchwey,” the statement read, “and appreciates the participation of all candidates, urging stakeholders to support the new Secretary-General in advancing the Commonwealth’s mission.”
The statement also expressed gratitude to outgoing Secretary-General Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland KC, acknowledging her dedicated service to the Commonwealth.
