Nigeria issues emergency contacts for citizens in Middle East

The Federal Government has released emergency contact details for Nigerian citizens living in the Middle East following rising tensions in parts of the region.

In a public advisory issued in Abuja on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nigerians affected by the evolving security situation to promptly contact the nearest Nigerian diplomatic mission and ensure they are duly registered with the appropriate embassy or consulate.

The advisory, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the measure was intended to strengthen communication between Nigerian authorities and citizens who may require urgent assistance.

According to the statement, Nigerian diplomatic missions across the region have activated existing communication channels to support citizens, including the provision of emergency guidance and the coordination of possible evacuation arrangements where necessary.

“Nigerian citizens affected by the ongoing crisis should contact the following mobile numbers in case of emergency and also ensure that they are registered with the respective embassy or consulate in their country of residence,” the statement said.

The ministry listed several missions providing emergency support, including the Embassy of Nigeria in Tehran, Tel Aviv, and Abu Dhabi.

Other diplomatic missions with dedicated emergency lines include the Consulate-General of Nigeria in Dubai; the Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait City, which also covers Bahrain; the Embassy in Doha; the mission in Beirut; as well as the Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate-General in Jeddah. The Embassy in Amman, which also covers Iraq, is also providing emergency assistance.

The ministry advised Nigerians in the region to remain vigilant, maintain regular contact with diplomatic missions and adhere strictly to safety directives issued by local authorities.

The advisory comes amid heightened security concerns across parts of the Middle East, with several countries activating emergency support mechanisms for their nationals abroad.

Officials said the Nigerian government will continue to monitor developments through its embassies and consulates while considering additional measures to safeguard the welfare of Nigerians living and working in the region.
