Nigerian Army neutralizes bandits in Birnin Gwari offensive

In a resolute response to the escalating threat posed by bandits and terrorists, the troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Operation Whirl Punch, conducted a successful offensive clearance operation in the dense forests of Birnin Gwari today. Acting on credible intelligence, the highly motivated troops targeted bandit strongholds in Sabon-Birni, Dogon Dawa, Saulawa, Maidaro-Ngede Allah, and Kidenda, all situated in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

As the troops engaged with the criminal elements, a fierce firefight ensued, resulting in a significant blow to the bandits. In the aftermath of the operation, six bandits were neutralized, and a substantial cache of weaponry and equipment was seized. The recovered items included two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 rifle magazines, 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 40 pairs of bandit uniforms, and nine motorcycles.

Major General Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, commended the troops for their exemplary gallantry in the face of danger. He emphasized the importance of sustaining the momentum until all terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements within the Division’s Area of Responsibility are completely neutralized.

Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division Nigerian Army, confirmed the success of the operation, underscoring the commitment of the military to ensuring the safety and security of the region. The decisive action taken by the troops reflects a steadfast determination to rid the area of criminal elements, sending a clear message that acts of terror will not be tolerated.
