In a series of coordinated military operations across multiple states, the Nigerian Army successfully eliminated eight terrorists and rescued 40 hostages, further weakening terrorist networks in the country.
According to military sources, troops also intercepted an arms courier in Nasarawa State, seizing a significant cache of ammunition, in a major crackdown on arms trafficking.
On 28 September 2024, acting on intelligence, soldiers conducted a stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road, leading to the arrest of a notorious arms smuggler and the recovery of 303 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to track down accomplices.
In Kaduna State, precision strikes in Birnin Gwari and Kachia Local Government Areas resulted in the elimination of three terrorists, with troops recovering firearms, ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the insurgents.
Meanwhile, in Borno State, troops engaged fleeing terrorists in Magumeri Local Government Area, recovering weapons, ammunition, and supplies. Further operations in Gwoza led to the neutralization of three more terrorists, and the seizure of vehicles loaded with food supplies intended for terrorist camps. A total of N2,400 was also recovered during the operation.
In a separate incident in Kukawa Local Government Area, troops rescued 38 hostages, including men, women, and children, as terrorists fled upon sighting military forces. In Yobe State, soldiers ambushed terrorists extorting civilians in Sasawa village, neutralizing one and recovering weapons.
The Chief of Army Staff praised the troops for their courage and the public for providing crucial information, reaffirming the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding the nation.
