The Headquarters of the 8 Division has addressed recent claims made by Sahara Reporters, circulating online, asserting that troops deployed in Zamfara State are experiencing inadequate feeding and have not received their December 2023 allowances.
In an official statement, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Ikechukwu Eze, the Division refutes these allegations, emphasizing its commitment to the well-being of its personnel.
Contrary to the reported poor feeding of the troops, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division, actively involved in ongoing clearance operations in Zamfara State over the past two weeks, shares the same source of sustenance as the troops. This direct involvement serves as a demonstration of the GOC’s dedication to the welfare and morale of the troops under his command. Additionally, the GOC operates an open-door policy, encouraging officers and soldiers of all ranks to approach him with concerns, ideas, or challenges, ensuring effective communication and addressing issues promptly.
While acknowledging the possibility of isolated cases of gaps in dispensing troops’ rations, the statement stresses the commitment of the Division to promptly address any such issues when brought to the attention of the authorities through established communication channels. The Division clarifies that the Operations Allowance for troops in December 2023 is currently in the processing stage and assures that disbursement will occur as soon as it is ready.
Recognizing the paramount importance of the well-being of its officers and soldiers, the Division reiterates its commitment to their welfare, understanding the positive impact on performance and overall morale. The statement underscores that the Division will persist in taking necessary measures to ensure troops are adequately catered for.
The Division urges the public to disregard any misinformation regarding the feeding of troops in Zamfara State, emphasizing that such claims are calculated to cause distraction and disharmony among the troops involved in Operation HADARIN DAJI. The Division highlights the significant achievements of these troops in the fight against terrorism and banditry in Zamfara State.
Lieut. Col. Ikechukwu Eze, expresses gratitude for the continued support and understanding of the public. The Division remains steadfast in its tireless efforts to maintain peace and security in Zamfara State and Northwestern Nigeria.
