In a coordinated effort, troops from Exercise GOLDEN DAWN III, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and local vigilante operatives, executed a strategic operation on Monday, December 11, 2023. Acting on timely and credible intelligence, the forces conducted a raid on camps affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed counterpart, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), situated in the Orsumoghu general area of Anambra State.
During the meticulously executed raid, the resilient troops successfully cleared and dismantled the IPOB/ESN camps. Notably, one terrorist was apprehended and others managed to escape, albeit sustaining gunshot wounds. Additionally, a pump-action rifle was recovered during the operation, showcasing the effectiveness of the mission.
In a related incident on Saturday, December 9, 2023, troops on patrol along the Orsumoghu ~ Ukpor road in Ihiala Local Government Area encountered individuals affiliated with the same groups. Employing superior firepower, the criminals were compelled to abandon their location. Subsequent searches yielded significant results, including the confiscation of 27 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, 3 locally made hand grenades, 2 handheld radios, one pair of NPF uniforms, and a fragmental jacket, alongside various charms used by the insurgents.
The ongoing Exercise GOLDEN DAWN III, recently initiated in the South East region, aims to bolster the security infrastructure during and after the yuletide period. Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, extends gratitude to the public for their support and urges them to contribute credible information through the Emergency Telephone Line 193.
