The Nigerian Navy has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the unauthorized use of naval uniforms and insignia. Reports have surfaced that some individuals, who are not military personnel, especially those not serving in the Nigerian Navy, have been indiscriminately wearing naval uniforms and using naval accoutrements and insignia.
The Nigerian Navy emphasizes that such actions are illegal under Nigerian law. Specifically, Chapter 12, Section 110 (1) and (2) of the Criminal Code states that “any person who, not being a person serving in any of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, wears the uniform or any part of the uniform of such forces, or any dress having the appearance… is guilty of an offence….”
The Navy urges the general public to cease wearing or appearing in naval uniforms and accoutrements. Violators of these regulations risk arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Nigerian Navy remains committed to maintaining the integrity of its uniforms and ensuring that only authorized personnel wear them.
