In a series of coordinated counter-terrorism operations across Nigeria on July 29, 2024, the Nigerian Army achieved significant successes, including the rescue of kidnapped civilians, neutralization of terrorists, and seizure of illegal arms and fuel. Notably, a notorious Boko Haram fighter, Babakarami Balawan, also surrendered to the troops.
In Kogi State, troops responded to a distress call along the Obajana Oshokoshoko road, where civilians had been abducted and taken into the forest. The troops swiftly engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, successfully rescuing the hostages.
In Benue State, troops, acting on credible intelligence, thwarted a potential terrorist attack along the Gbeji Afia road. The operation resulted in the neutralization of a terrorist, the capture of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorbike, ensuring the safety of the local community.
Further operations in Imo State led to the interception of a vehicle carrying 21 sacks of illegally refined diesel (AGO). The troops also apprehended armed escorts hired to protect the illegal cargo.
In Borno State, Babakarami Balawan, a notorious Boko Haram fighter, surrendered to the military in Bama Local Government Area. The surrender followed intensified military actions targeting terrorist hideouts. Troops recovered an AK-49 rifle, a magazine, and a bicycle from Balawan. Additionally, they neutralized two terrorists and seized various types of ammunition and empty magazines.
In a related operation, troops in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State rescued a woman and her two children.
These successful operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation and dismantling criminal networks.
