The International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Africa Region Training Conference kicked off today, July 2, 2024, at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Abuja. The event was inaugurated by the Wife of the President of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Rachel Umahi, the wife of the Honourable Minister of Works.
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, AbujaACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said with the themed “Addressing Africa’s Security Challenges and Safety through Collaboration and Inclusivity,” the conference aims to equip women police and other security officers with the skills needed to tackle modern security threats across the African continent.


It hosts 520 delegates from over 18 African countries, including Nigeria, Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Liberia, Kenya, and more.
The event also saw the presence of notable dignitaries, including the former Vice President of Liberia, United Nations representatives, the Minister of State for Police Affairs, the Minister of State for the FCT, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Police Institutions.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the conference’s chief host, launched the new Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Gender Policy, emphasizing gender sensitivity and inclusivity in police operations. The IGP reaffirmed the commitment to gender inclusivity at all levels within the police force.
The conference marks a significant step towards creating a modern, progressive, and gender-inclusive police force in Nigeria.
