The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has restated its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, warning the public against falling victim to fraudulent agents claiming to modify National Identification Number (NIN) records.
In a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the Commission dismissed reports that some enrolment agents in Abuja were extorting applicants to falsify dates of birth.
“For the records, all NIN data modifications are done exclusively online through the NIMC self-service modification portal — selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng. No physical modification is allowed, and NIMC has no agents authorized to carry out such services,” the statement said.
The Commission emphasized that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward extortion, falsification, or any unethical practices by staff or licensed front-end partners. It urged members of the public to report cases of misconduct via official complaint channels, including phone lines (+234-9-134959433, 08155015388) and emails (actu@nimc.gov.ng; ieu@nimc.gov.ng).
NIMC reassured Nigerians that the National Identity Database remains secure, adding that it is committed to transparency, accountability, and public trust in the country’s identity management system.
