In alignment with the federal government’s mandate to ensure food security, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has reiterated its commitment to providing accurate and timely weather services for agricultural benefits.
This commitment was underscored in a goodwill message by the Director General/CEO, of the Nigerian Meteorology Agency (NiMet ), Prof. Mansur Bako at the opening ceremony of the 2023 National Agricultural Show held in keffi today.
In his reassuring remarks, the Director General/CEO, who was represented by the General Manager Investment, Mr. Abdulatif Yusuf, emphasized NiMet’s awareness of the profound impact weather and climate pattern have on agricultural activities. He noted that the success and productivity of farmers are intricately linked to the prevailing atmospheric conditions.
The Director General elaborated on NiMet’s continuous commitment to providing timely and accurate weather information, along with tailor-made products for stakeholders in the agricultural sectorĺl. These products include rainfall patterns, extreme weather events, agricultural bulletins and more. The aim is to mitigate risks, reduce losses, maximize yields and ensure effective agricultural planning and decision making to achieve food security in Nigeria, he summed.
Prof. Matazu stressed that sustainable agricultural practice require a collective effort from all stakeholders. Urging farmers to adhere to climate information provided by NiMet, embrace precision farming and utilize climate smart technologies to enhance productivity, Prof. Matazu added that this and innovative strategies contribute to the broader goal of building a sustainable and food-secured future.
Prof. Matazu, expressed gratitude to the organizers of the National Agricultural Show for their continuous dedication and hard work towards the sustainable development of agricultural practices in Nigeria and pledged NiMet’s ongoing support to the agricultural sector, reinforcing the Agency’s commitment to fostering a resilient and productive agricultural landscape in the country.
