The Nigerian Meteorological (NiMet) has emphasized the crucial need for unwavering dedication to advancing sustainable air transportation in Africa. This resounding message was delivered during the 7th Aviation Africa Summit and Exhibition held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja. Leading the charge at this significant gathering was the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN.
Addressing the assembly of aviation stakeholders, Festus Keyamo underscored the pivotal role that air transportation plays within the global transit network, highlighting its economic, social, and cultural significance. He emphasized the imperative for African nations to harness and fully exploit the advantages of aviation as a catalyst for development.
The Honourable Minister further stressed the importance of fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and nurturing business development within the African aviation community. He described these practices as essential for confronting the formidable challenges confronting the industry.
In consonance with the Minister’s vision, the Director General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, emphasized the critical significance of adopting a comprehensive approach to aviation growth in Africa. Prof. Mansur also lauded the participants for their collective efforts in identifying new trends, innovations, challenges, and opportunities within the African aviation sector. This, he said, underscores the commitment of aviation stakeholders to promote sustainable air transport development in Africa and elevate African aviation on the global stage.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Matazu congratulated Nigeria for hosting this prestigious event, marking it as the first West African country to host such an event.
This two-day summit brought together leaders from airlines across the continent, directors general of civil aviation, airport authorities, manufacturers, service providers, and government agencies. Its primary goal was to stimulate the implementation of policies that will drive sustainable growth in Africa’s air transportation sector, ultimately leading to a robust African aviation industry.
