NiMet receives computer equipment from AGRHYMET

The AGRHYMET Regional Centre in Niamey, Niger, has generously contributed a valuable set of computer equipment to enhance the capabilities of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency in forecasting high-impact weather events.

This significant donation, as articulated in the official donation certificate signed by AGRHYMET’s Acting Director General, Prof. Sanoussi Ata, falls under the purview of the Global Framework for Climate Services – Africa Office (GFCS-AO) project, funded by the European Union.

The equipment encompasses an HPE ML 350 Gen10 server, an HP Screen, and the installation of CLIMSOFT database management software, among other vital components.

Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, Director-General of NiMet, expressed his enthusiasm upon receiving the equipment. He emphasized that this contribution stems from NiMet’s active involvement in and membership with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Prof. Matazu further emphasized that this equipment will play a pivotal role in expanding the range of weather products generated by the Agency. The primary goal is to ensure that Nigerians can fully leverage the diverse range of products, particularly in the maritime sector, where the Agency is actively working to strengthen its services.

The responsibility for the equipment’s management and utilization has been entrusted to Prof. Charles Anosike, the Director of Applied Meteorological Services.
