In a significant joint operation today, Mr. Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., and General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, visited Oporoza, Warri, Delta State, to conduct an inspection of MT Kali—an illicit crude oil vessel intercepted by Tantita Security Services, a private security firm, in collaboration with the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The vessel was apprehended while in the process of loading thousands of metric tonnes of crude oil directly from an offshore platform in Bayelsa State.
All 23 crew members aboard the illegal vessel have been taken into custody.
During the comprehensive inspection tour conducted on Monday, General Musa reiterated the military’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with NNPC Ltd. and various government and private security agencies to curb the pervasive issue of crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
“We are resolute in our determination to put an end to all forms of criminal activities in Nigerian waters. A stern warning is issued to those engaging in such criminal acts – enough is enough,” declared the Chief of Defence Staff.
Highlighting the economic repercussions of such illicit activities, General Musa emphasized, “The country is suffering, and we require all available resources for our national development. Curtailing these criminal activities is essential for us to realize our aspirations as a nation.”
This joint effort signifies a crucial step towards ensuring the security and prosperity of Nigeria, as the government and its partners continue to combat illegal activities that undermine the nation’s economic growth and stability.
