NNPC Ltd. confirms Port Harcourt Refinery progress, refutes misleading claims

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has reaffirmed the operational success of the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery, expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their continued support.

In a statement Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd Olufemi Soneye said following years of underperformance, the refinery is now running at 70% of its installed capacity, with a target to reach 90% soon. Current daily production outputs include:

He added that straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha): Blended into 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Kerosene: 900,000 liters, Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel): 1.5 million liters, Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO): 2.1 million liters and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG): Additional volumes

In response to claims suggesting that the refinery is not producing, NNPC Ltd. clarified that gasoline production meets industry standards through the incorporation of crack C5 from Indorama Petrochemicals. Blending processes are standard across refineries worldwide to ensure compliance with fuel specifications.

The company also highlighted progress on the new Port Harcourt Refinery, with operations set to commence shortly.

NNPC Ltd. urged Nigerians to recognize the advancements made under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, and to support efforts to strengthen the nation’s energy sector.
