NNPC Ltd kicks off free cancer screening campaign for 3,000 Nigerians

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), via its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, NNPC Foundation, is launching a nationwide cancer screening campaign targeting 3,000 Nigerians.

This initiative, titled “Cancer Awareness and ZSX Screening,” offers free cancer screenings alongside health education workshops and consultations, aimed at encouraging early detection and preventive health measures.

According to NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the program will operate across the six geo-political zones, with screening centers established in Kaduna, Rivers, Ondo, Benue, Imo, and Gombe. Focused on breast, cervical, and prostate cancers, the campaign aims to support at-risk populations with critical early detection services.

“The fight against cancer requires collective action and accessible healthcare,” said NNPC Foundation’s Managing Director, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe. “This campaign goes beyond screenings; it’s about saving lives and empowering communities with knowledge on prevention.”

Cancer remains a major health concern in Nigeria, with over 79,000 annual deaths attributed to cancer, according to WHO data. NNPC Ltd. aims to reduce late-stage cancer diagnoses, which are prevalent due to limited access, stigma, and insufficient awareness.

Following a successful screening event in February 2024 in Abuja, this latest campaign highlights NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to promoting health equity across Nigeria through its CSR efforts.
