NNPC Ltd, Partners donate 2,300-seater ultra-modern library to Niger Delta University

In a significant gesture toward advancing education and academic excellence, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) and its Joint Venture partners in OML 18, including the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Total Energies EP Nigeria Ltd., Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd., and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Deepwater) Ltd., have generously contributed a state-of-the-art digital library to the Niger Delta University, situated in Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Bayelsa State.

Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd said the newly donated digital library, a remarkable two-storey complex, is outfitted with cutting-edge Information Technology amenities, featuring 100 computer systems, e-learning and research facilities, interactive smart boards, projectors, camcorders, e-books, e-journals, e-learning portal, and spacious reading halls. The library complex also includes essential facilities such as a Wi-Fi Lounge, print and document hall, video and audio recordings area, photography and online education center, e-distant learning hall, Chief Librarian and departmental offices, IT rack room, newspaper archive, stack room for new arrivals, and conveniences.

Moreover, the library complex is equipped with vital infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted functionality, including a 500KVA power generator, a 500KVA transformer, and a dedicated water borehole with water purification facilities.

The establishment of this advanced e-library underscores a commitment to fostering ICT education and creating an optimal learning environment for students and researchers at Niger Delta University. The facility aims to keep its users abreast of global IT practices and advancements, thus enhancing the quality of education and research output.

The official commissioning and handover ceremony of the project witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Evwrudjakpor; Pro-Chancellor of the Niger Delta University, Matthew Seiyefa; Vice-Chancellor of Niger Delta University, Prof. Allen Agih; representative of the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Dr. Ama Ikuru; Deputy Manager, External Relations, NNPC Ltd., Edith Lawson; Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company and Country Chair, Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor; and Managing Director of SNEPCo, Elohor Aiboni.

This significant initiative marks a collaborative effort toward enhancing educational infrastructure and fostering academic excellence in the Niger Delta region, reflecting a shared commitment to socio-economic development and empowerment through education.
