The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has achieved a major milestone with the re-streaming of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC). The refinery has begun crude oil processing and the distribution of petroleum products, signaling progress in Nigeria’s push for energy independence.
Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd. Abuja Olufemi Soneye in a statement said on Tuesday, trucks commenced loading key products, including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Household Kerosene (HHK), with additional product slates expected to follow.

Speaking at the inauguration of the refinery’s product loadout activities in Port Harcourt, NNPC’s Group CEO, Mele Kyari, hailed the development as a transformative achievement. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the refinery rehabilitation project and commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s energy security.

Kyari also expressed gratitude to the NNPC Board of Directors, staff, and contractors for their efforts in overcoming challenges to deliver the refinery. He praised Nigerians for their patience and assured that similar progress is underway at other refineries under rehabilitation.

The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, congratulated NNPC on the milestone and pledged his agency’s continued support for refinery rehabilitation efforts.

The PHRC rehabilitation, an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning (EPCIC) project, aims to restore the refinery to optimal functionality. To date, it has recorded over 16 million manhours without any Loss Time Injury (LTI), underscoring its focus on safety and efficiency.
