The Lagos State School Chess Championship, spearheaded by NNPC-SNEPCo in collaboration with Chess in Slums Africa (CiSA), unfolded on November 30, 2024, showcasing exceptional talent from secondary schools across Lagos and participants from underserved communities.

The landmark tournament, organized under the leadership of CiSA founder Tunde Onakoya, featured 30 teams competing in five intense rounds. Victors were determined based on cumulative points, with results as follows:

  • 1st Place: Platform Schools
  • 2nd Place: Shasha Community Junior & Senior Secondary Schools
  • 3rd Place (Tie): Abiolu Schools and Impetus Dominion Academy

Special Recognitions:

  • Best Performing Male: Luke Miracle (Shasha Community High School)
  • Best Performing Female: Ogbonna Confidence (Chess in Slums Africa)

The event served as more than a competition. For students from underserved communities, it provided a platform to display resilience and skills nurtured through the Chess in Slums initiative. For other participants, it was an opportunity to draw inspiration and learn from peers overcoming significant challenges, demonstrating that talent and determination transcend circumstances.

NNPC-SNEPCo and CiSA continue to redefine empowerment by investing in education and intellectual development, fostering a brighter future for Nigeria’s youth.
