NNPCL restores production of 275,000 bopd, settles lingering PENGASSAN – TotalEnergies management rift

Following a peace deal brokered on Sunday, November 12, 2023, by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), an agreement has been reached between the management of TotalEnergies, the operator of the NNPC/TotalEnergies Joint Venture, and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). Consequently, the unions have collectively decided to suspend the ongoing industrial action, leading to the immediate restoration of a production level of 275,000 barrels of oil per day.

The disclosure was made in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of an extensive negotiation session, chaired by Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Ltd. During this marathon negotiation, all parties expressed their commitment to resolving outstanding issues within a mutually agreed framework.

The communiqué was formally signed by Matthieu Bouyer, the Managing Director/CEO of TotalEnergies, Comrade Festus Osifo, the President of PENGASSAN, and Comrade Williams Akporegha, the President of NUPENG. This significant event was witnessed by key figures, including Olufemi O. Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the EVP Upstream of NNPC Ltd., Bala Wunti, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, and Victor Bandele, the Deputy Managing Director of TotalEnergies. The collaboration of these stakeholders marks a pivotal step towards fostering stability in the oil and gas sector.
