The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 12 suspected vandals at various locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the Sallah holiday.
FCT NSCDC Commander, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, briefed reporters on Tuesday in Abuja, explaining that the arrests were carried out by the Tactical Squad of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure unit, which was on heightened patrol during the festivities to protect lives and property.
The suspects include Istifani Stephen (43), Samson Danladi (29), Yakubu Thankgod (35), Barnabas Sobok (25), Zayyanu Muhammad (21), Sani Wakili (55), Usman Dankastina (38), Abdulahi Saidu (31), Ibrahim Haruna (32), Sambo Abraham (34), Umar Suleiman, and Musa Ibrahim (20).
Recovered items include armored cables, telecommunications mast accessories, shovels, daggers, an axe, galvanized iron rods, and billboards.
Odumosu emphasized the command’s determination to combat vandalism, noting that criminals often exploit festive periods to target national assets.
“These unscrupulous elements are sabotaging government efforts by vandalizing national assets for selfish gain. This must stop,” he said.
He warned vandals to desist from damaging critical infrastructure or face the full weight of the law. The commander also appealed to residents for intelligence support to aid the Corps in safeguarding vital facilities.
