The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,500 personnel across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure a peaceful and secure Independence Day celebration.
In a statement on Monday, the FCT Command Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi, said the directive was issued by the Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, as part of efforts to safeguard lives, property, and critical national assets before, during, and after the 65th Independence anniversary.
According to the statement, the deployment covers specialized units such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), and the Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE) unit. Officers have also been assigned to vulnerable locations, including shopping malls, markets, motor parks, religious centers, government buildings, and recreation hubs across the FCT.
To strengthen surveillance, undercover operatives have been dispatched to conduct covert operations, with attention to criminal hideouts and uncompleted buildings often used as shelters by miscreants.
Commandant Odumosu instructed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to maintain strong visibility and ensure adequate personnel deployment. He warned against lapses, insisting on strict adherence to rules of engagement while cautioning officers to avoid harassment, intimidation, or accidental discharge.
He assured residents of a safe celebration and urged them to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. He also warned vandals and criminals to steer clear of national assets, stressing that covert operatives are strategically positioned across the capital.
Odumosu extended his goodwill to residents, wishing them a joyous 65th Independence Day celebration and praying for Nigeria’s peace and progress.
