NSCDC deploys personnal nationwide for independence celebrations

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed personnel and operational resources across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure during Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, said the deployment was designed to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration while preventing vandalism, sabotage and other criminal activities.

Audi, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant Babawale Afolabi, said special attention would be given to strategic installations, public facilities and other locations considered vulnerable to security threats.

He said the Corps was fully prepared to discharge its statutory responsibilities and contribute to the maintenance of peace and national security before, during and after the celebrations.

“The NSCDC remains fully prepared to discharge its statutory responsibilities and contribute effectively to the maintenance of peace and national security,” Audi said.

According to him, the Corps would maintain close collaboration with sister security agencies, relevant stakeholders and communities to strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance its capacity for rapid response to emerging threats.

The nationwide deployment comes as Nigerians commemorate the 66th anniversary of the country’s independence from British colonial rule, with security agencies intensifying measures around public gatherings, strategic installations and other sensitive locations.

The NSCDC has a statutory mandate to protect critical national assets and infrastructure and plays a key role in preventing vandalism and safeguarding facilities essential to Nigeria’s economic and social activities.

Audi urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and law-abiding throughout the celebrations, calling on citizens to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the appropriate security authorities.

He stressed that public cooperation remained essential to effective security and the prevention of threats to lives and property.

The NSCDC chief also urged Nigerians to use the anniversary to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and renew their commitment to national unity, patriotism and peaceful coexistence.

Audi, on behalf of the officers and personnel of the Corps, congratulated the Federal Government and Nigerians at home and abroad on the Independence Anniversary and wished the country peace and prosperity.
